biography
Anca Dănilă was born in Romania in 1982. Her artworks reflect the social concern regarding the overweight of the individuals of contemporary society. The artist believes that people should ask themselves the question: “Do I live to eat or do I eat to live?”
In its journey the human being often neglects the physical body by believing that this will follow him together with the psychical body, but if these two are not in balance one with the other they cannot function well together and cannot be in harmony with one another.
Therefore in order to bring the balance and harmony in ourselves we need to cure both the physical and the psychical body. She plays the role of a psychotherapist who is making an
analysis and asks straight questions so that people could find an answer on their own.
artists statement
I think that through painting my own self comes out and I mirror myself into my paintings. I believe that an artist cannot lie when he is creating because his art is a true expression of his self. The media I am working on is oil on canvas and I prefer to express my ideas through figurative painting. In my artworks one can see the same child, my brother. He inspires me everyday and he brings me back to those moments of innocence but not only, also to the moments where a person starts building his or her own character at a juvenile age. I am an analytical person so I like to observe the language behind a simple gesture of a person, a child, a human being. I think the expression of the physical body says everything that it is happening in his psychical body, so in order to bring the balance in ourselves we need to cure the both physical and psychical bodies. I see myself like a psychotherapist who is making an analysis and asks straight questions so that people could find an answer on their own. In the meantime I also think that via those question marks the first person that I am really trying to cure is actually my-self, since I am a mere reflection in this huge mirror we call world.
